Cardiff wwere beaten 2 - 0 at Darlington today but the promotion situation improved after Hartlepool lost for the second time in successive matches. The Bluebirds now need only one win to secure promotion. (Well OK to be pedantic 4 points but the superior goal difference means 3 points would be enough).

Chesterfield and Brighton both won today to claim the first two promotion places. Chesterfield may yet have 9 points deducted but for now they have earned the points needed to go up. Well done to both teams. Cardiff can join them on Monday with a home win over Chesterfield.

John Williams, the former City striker was chief tormentor with a goal and a man of the match performance. City were 2 down after 27 mins and despite three earlyy substitutions never really looked the promotion side.
