Hard one to call this. We should have been dead and buried so far that we deserved nothing but the comeback and the mini onslaught near then end meant we were unlucky not to win. City played with the same 4 - 3 - 3 formation that competed so well and Bristol City but it was all over the place tonight. The front three play too far apart, Earnie and Thorne had to send postcards to each other. At Bristol Weston and Simpkins were involved in the game for their defending qualities, and in fairness they are both good defenders. A Simpkins goal line clearance and a saving Weston tackle were straight out of the top draw against Wigan but they lack creation and quality going forward, neither can cross a decent ball. At home against defending teams we need good attacking full backs. Brayson worked hard and probably deserved his man of the match, Thorne was quiet but there when it mattered. Earnie had a mare apart from the cross for Thorne to score. Kavanagh sat back and at times formed a 5 man defence. We didn't need that against a team who had 8 defenders of their own. Man for man we have one of the best teams in the division. Its needs to be managed better. We have won once in the last 7 games, 6 points out of 21. Games that have been there for the taking have been squandered. The crowds are still coming, City's 6th consecutive home crowd of over 11,000. City stay 17th and have used up games in hand, we are now a bottom half of the table side, not a promotion contender at the moment. Its only 8 points to the top of the tree but we are not winning games, three draws in a row now. Comment. Could do better. A lot better. Play for 90 minutes, not 30. Next Tuesday City are at home again in the LDV vans Cup against Rushden. Cheaper prices apply with pre purchased tickets only £5 for the Bob Bank and £7 for the Grandstand. Matchday prices are more. Next league action is the televised clash at Swindon a week Sunday (Oct 21st). |
