| Thurs 11th Jan 2001 - Gordon and Harper available | |
| January Headlines |
James Harper and Gavin Gordon are both available for selection at Southend this
weekend after missing the FA Cup game against Crewe last Saturday. It will be for one game
only though as they must both miss out the replay at Gresty Rd next Tuesday. Leo FW returned to the side last weekend and will hope to stay first choice with Gordon on the bench. James Harper was replaced by Kevin Evans and will contend the midfield spot along with Evans and Willie Boland who came through 90 minutes at Merthyr on Tuesday. Harper played for 45 mins against the Martyrs which suggests he will be selected ahead of Boland. 3rd placed City will be looking to close the gap on Chesterfield and Brighton at the top of the table. Chesterfield are currently 9 points ahead but have played two games more. City have already clawed them back, the Spirites were 15 points ahead with same games played at one stage. Chesterfield entertain Scunthorpe who are back in 9th place. An away win would be nice. Brighton are 4 points ahead in 2nd place. The Seagulls have played one game more and face a tricky visit to Jan Molby's Kidderminster on Saturday. Not forgetting the two teams immediately below us. Rochdale in 4th are level on points and games played, they are at home to Halifax and Leyton Orient in 5th are one poind behind us with the same games played, they are away to lowly Exeter. Southend will be smarting from their FA Cup exit last weekend against non-league Kingstonian. They will be out to avenge that defeat and they are only 5 points behind us, they have though played two games more. One thing for sure it will be a tough and I hope entertaining game with City picking up the points. Further preview to follow on Friday. |
