| Mon 10th December 2001 - Don't forget the league | |
| December Headlines |
The
draw of Leeds Utd in the FA Cup has catapulted City into the media spotlight. With the tie
being one of the highlights of the third round and being chosen as a live SKY game the
media attention will continue up until matchday. But City have 5 league games in 17 days coming before the Leeds clash. These 5 games could make or break our season. The Cup is nice and it will be great but the club must keep the players focussed on the 15 points on offer at Blackpool, Stoke, at home to Reading and Bristol City and then away to Brentford on New Years Day. City have sold their full 1,000 allocation for the Blackpool game this weekend. Already the Upper Grandstand is sold out for Reading on Boxing Day and the centre Grandstand is sold out for Bristol City on Dec 29th. The next three matches at Ninian Park will probably all be sell outs. Speaking in this mornings papers Sam said "We must not forget that the league is a hundred times more important than this game. Even if we won the FA Cup match it would not mean as much to me as beating Blackpool on Saturday. Getting three points there is my concern. Everyone - the media, staff, players and most of all the fans - will think of this as a great occasion, but it could get our eye off the ball for the real business." |
