Press
reports from Portsmouth yesterday linked Welshman Ceri Hughes with a move to Ninian Park.
There is no official confirmation from either Cardiff or Portsmouth and the news article
is based on an understanding. Don't go getting new shirt with C Hughes on the back just
yet. The
Portsmouth and Solent edition of the News carried the following story
CARDIFF want to take Blues midfielder Ceri Hughes back
to Wales.
The newly-promoted second division side are understood to have approached Pompey about the
£200,000-rated star.
Hughes today he insisted he was happy at Pompey and excited about the new season as he
recovers fitness. But a move to Cardiff would be attractive if Pompey decided they wanted
to sell him.
Hughes, 30 has spent six months on the sidelines after a triple hernia op.
Graham Rix has a dearth of left-sided players at the club and is not anxious to sell
Hughes, who has made 34 starts since signing from Wimbledon for £150,000 in January 2000.
Hughes said: 'It's the first I've heard about it. I'm fit and raring to go for the new
season at Portsmouth. I'm happy here.
'But it all depends on where I stand at Portsmouth because the club has been bringing a
lot of players in.'
The arrival of left-winger Courtney Pitt from Chelsea will put further pressure on Hughes. |
