Alan Cork will be looking to tie up the signing of Spencer Prior sooner rather than later this week. Cork himself is getting married next wekend and will then be on honeymoon. There will therefore, one assumes,  be a lull in transfer activity for a couple of weeks.

Man City have accepted Cardiff's £650,000 record bid for Prior so its purely down to the player. He must weigh up the financial package on offer and of course the ambition of the club. I think he will sign and he will have been won over by Sam and his ambition. Players like Spencer Prior would not consider second division football unless they thought there was more than a good chance that they would only be playing it for one season. The same goes for Des Hamilton. I have been mailed by several Bradford and Newcastle fans who tell me that Des is full of ability and while he was overwhelmed at Premiership level he will triumph at Div 2 level, he just needs some regular football and he will be a star player.

Prior could walk into any first division club and probably several Premiership clubs. Its a massive deal for Cardiff City if they can get his signature. Those pessimists out there had better start thinking again.

This time 12 months ago City's record signing was the £280,000 farcical deals involving Godfrey Ingram in the early 80's. Since Sam's arrival we have spent £300,000 on Leo FW, £450,000 on David Hughes and now £650,000 on Spencer Prior. There are rumours that the Daniel Gabbidon deal could be worth upto £800,000 but so much depends on international caps, appearances etc. Spencer Prior at £650,000 is a record.

Sam pledged £2m on signings. He wanted a goalkeeper, a left sided defender, another defender, a midfielder and a striker. Possibly one or two youngsters as well. Ian Alexander is the goalkeeper, signed for £130,000. Michael Simpkins is the left sided defender, signed on a free transfer. Hopefully in the next 24 hours Prior will be the other defender costing £650K and Des Hamilton is the midfielder. He was free. So we are still looking for a striker and maybe a couple of young players. You must remember though that while Hamilton and Simpkins are "free" a signing on fee and a competitive financial package could be eating into the £2m.

The good times are coming back to Ninian Park, work is well under way to increase the capacity to 20,000 and we have division 2 to look forward to.
