| April Headlines |
What a sequence of results today. Leaders Chesterfield were beaten at Orient, second placed Brightons game was called off and promotion challengers Hartlepool lost their 20 odd game unbeaten run when they went down at Southend. Chesterfield lost 2 - 0 at Orient and now City are only 5 points behind them with the next game at NP on April 16th against the Spirites. The championship is not over yet. Brighton who were in 2nd place were frustrated when their game at Halifax was called off this morning. City's win mean the Bluebirds go second but the Seagulls are only 2 points behind with 2 games in hand. The real business involves Hartlepool, 'pool were the only team with a realistic chance of catching City. Today they blew it, they lost 2 - 1 at Southend and are now 9 points behind Cardiff having played 1 game more. They are also 24 goals behind in the goal difference stakes. That means a City win at Darlington next week and a Hartlepool loss with Orient and Rochdale failing to win would mean City are unofficially promoted. The Bluebirds would need to lose all their games and Hartlepool win all theirs scoring a sackfull of goals to have a chance. To get the magical p next to our name will mean results at Darlington and against Chesterfield. I hate to count chickens but as I said earlier the Blues are going up. At the bottom of the table Torquay remain the 92nd club in the league but its close, Halifax, Carlisle, Lincoln and Barnet are all within 5 points of them. |
