The Daily Mirror this morning has spoken to former Man City boss Joe Royle about the vacant technical director role at Ninian Park.

Dave Bassett was within inches of coming to Cardiff City to act as mentor to Alan Cork but was appointed manager of Premiership Leicester City taking Mickey Adams from Brighton as his assistant. Other names like George Graham and Gordon Strachan have been mentioned but always denied.

When asked about Cardiff City Royle said

"I know things are happening at Cardiff City. I have a friend living in Newport and he tells me Hammam is moving moutains.

I know Sam very well - we're old adversaries. I think there were similarities between us at Oldham and Wimbledon in that we were both Davids surrounded by Goliaths in the Premiership.

Sam knows where I am if he wants to chat. I would definately talk to Cardiff if they called."

I was speaking to Sam today and he would not comment on names of potential people to come to Ninian Park but he reiterated the need to get some experience in to help Cork and Butterworth.

Alan Cork has dismissed the Royle link and also that of any link to Jim Smith.
