Cork revealed to the Sunday papers yesterday that he is being harrassed by City fans
calling him on his mobile phone. The calls have come after the poor show against
Peterborough last Tuesday "I've started getting these phone calls because my mobile number has been handed out. But these people don't seem to realise this club is not run by one person. I've a boss above me too, you know." Cork said. The story links calls for Cork's head on Cardiff City websites and the abuse he is receiving. If it is correct and fans are ringing up abusing the manager then its a poor show. Whatever views you may have on Corks ability or personality then abusing him via his mobile phone is not on. Cork went on to say "I'm not going to let them get to me - and I'm not going to change my telephone number either because that will show they have got to me. "Anyway, what would be the point because they would probably get hold of the new number anyway? "The truth is that some people are unhappy that their `friends' at the club are not in the team and are blaming me. But, as I say, I'm not the only person at this club. "Nor am I going to worry about what is being said on the Internet sites. If I spent every minute of the day looking at what they are writing about me, I'd never get any sleep. "Hey, even Sir Alex Ferguson is slaughtered on w e b s i t e s . Suddenly, because Manchester United aren't winning, he's not a good manager! "It's nonsense. Internet message boards are what they are - but I'm sure one day the laws will change to stop this sort of thing happening. "The truth is I've just got to ignore the flak and get on with my job - and that's what I'm doing." There is a line to be drawn here. Personally abusing is wrong, but internet message boards are homes to free speech and people have a right to air their views and critisise. Its when it oversteps the mark to abuse that it becomes unacceptable. Cork then reflected on the season so far "I believe things are going fine. It was never going to be easy this season, because of the weight of expectation upon us. Some people not only expect you to win the League, but to win every game too. Sometimes you're lucky, sometimes you're not. But we are unbeaten in six League games and we're looking to extend that run against Wrexham. No one was more disappointed than me when we conceded an injury time goal to Tranmere last weekend. Do you know how I coped with my disappointment? I went out and got drunk - and I got drunk again on Sunday! That result hit me hard. I really thought we should have won the game. But there's no point going home and kicking the cat. You pick yourself up, dust yourself down and fight the next day. I came back in on the Monday morning and we began preparing for the week ahead." The comments from Cork came a day after David Giles took the back page headlines in the Echo with his condemnation of the fans who have been verbally abusing Rhys Weston and Michael Simpkins. Giles was speaking out about the way that sections of the Cardiff City crowd have been giving the youngsters some over the top stick. It does appear that some people will complain about everything. Some cannot see that we are on the up and are progressing in Division 2. People have the right to opinions but unfortunately some take it too far. |
