Alan Cork was tight lipped after yesterdays great win at Wrexham. It was left to Ian Butterworth to speak to the press.

"It was a comfortable win in the end and you have to give our players credit for that. The victory could have been more comprehensive - we could have scored four or five." said the City assistant.

"We defended badly for their goal but when we scored our second just before half-time that turned the match for us."

Butterworh called Graham Kavanagh's goal a "wonder goal".

Denis Smith the Wrexham boss said

"That's what you pay a million pounds for,"

Graham Kavanagh was happy to talk about his superb strike that sent City in leading at half time.

"It was one of the best goals I've scored but I couldn't say it was the best. I've scored a few decent goals in my time that people in Cardiff don't know about. It was one of those shots that could have gone anywhere. Fortunately for us it went in. It wasn't my best goal but it was one of the best."

Before I scored I noticed their 'keeper was standing six or eight yards off his line. If I got the chance then I thought I'd try and beat him. The ball came to me, it sat up nicely and I just hit it. It looked as if it was going to hit the bar, but it went in. I was absolutely delighted with it. What was really nice was that the game was live on television so a lot of people had the opportunity to see it.

It came at an important moment, just before half-time. I think it killed Wrexham off."

Kavanagh then reflected on City's current form and the struggle to win matches at Ninian Park.

"The system we play, with three up front, is better suited to counterattacking football. At home it's harder because the onus is on us to attack. The other sides come to Ninian Park and defend in numbers.

Also, we haven't won at home for a while and maybe that's playing on our minds a bit. It has become a bit of a mental thing. But if we can win the next few home games then all that will be forgotten.

Our confidence is sky-high at the moment because of our recent good results, but we've got to approach the Bury game in the right manner.

When I was at Stoke last season we were going for promotion but dropped six points to Swansea, who only won eight games all season. No matter what position Bury are in, we've got have the right attitude."

While the City contingent were celebrating the teams rise into the top 10 it was a different story for Wrexham boss Denis Smith. The Robins stay in the relegation zone and Smith said

“I was disappointed at the result. We thought we knew how we could get the better of them and that was by going wide, which was just the way we got our first goal.

After that they came back and got an equaliser, which young Steve Roberts was a bit upset about, because he got there and thought all he had to do was put it in Row Z and it’s not a problem. I think he will learn from it, as I consider him to be a good young talent.

As for the second one, well that’s what you pay a million quid for! That made the difference and that put us on the rack.

The third one I was disappointed, because I can see Craig Faulconbridge getting fouled off the first corner. The linesman my side of the pitch says he can see it, but can’t do anything about it! Then from the second successive corner they go and score – disappointing to say the least.

Overall though we didn’t get the ball wide enough and early enough, which was the plan. Had we done that, then hopefully we would have done better."

Smith then tried to look for some positives

“I have also told them that if we carry on playing like I know we can, then come the end of the season, we won’t be in the position we find ourselves in now and that’s important. At the moment we are down at the bottom and we’ve got two games in hand, but they’re no good to us if we don’t win them.

While supporters might get despondent and down, it’s no good me going around with a long face. If it helped then I’d do that, but I’ve got to be positive and try and get the lads going.”
