| Tues 4th December 2001 - Brentford preview | |
| December Headlines |
What
a big match at Ninian Park tonight. Steve Coppells high flying Bees come to Ninian Park
smarting after a 5 - 3 reverse at Wycombe on the weekend. Brentford has suffered a little
stutter of late, a run of 8 straight league wins was halted with defeat at Stoke City and
since then two draws and a defeat have followed. Brentford are run by Ron Noades, Sam
Hammams close friend but there will be no love lost tonight as both teams fight it out for
the three points. City are currently in a run of 11 league games with only one defeat, the embarrassing 0 - 3 at Bury, that aside the Bluebirds have picked up a few wins of late and the most important of those against Oldham on Saturday. Hopefully that has exorsised some of the demons that have been holding the team back at Ninian Park. A win tonight for City would move us up into the play off places and go into the weekends break from league action with a team full of confidence. Port Vale will not be looking forward to Saturday if we are on track for 3 wins in 8 days. Back to tonight, a massive crowd of over 13,000 is expected, the win against Oldham has given everybody a boost and tonight is eagerly awaited. Paul Brayson has returned to the squad to replace Kevin Nugent who is in contract talks with Colchester Utd. The line up is expected to be the same as Saturday with Alexander in goal, Gabbidon, Young, Prior and Dean Gordon across the back. Kavanagh, Bonner, Boland and Bowen in the midfield with Peter Thorne and Earnie up front. Brayson will join Legg, Leo, Weston and Maxwell on the bench. Alan Cork has said he may change his system to combat the 4 - 4 - 2 formation preferred by Brentford. The Bees contain some good players. Lloyd Owusu is an exciting goal scorer and skipper Paul Evans was once a City target. He is a quality midfield player who, like Kavanagh, can score the odd spectacular goal or two. No one expected Brentford to be as high as they are, all credit to Steve Coppell who has produced a team playing well for each other. It's a big game tonight, a win for City and the promotion credentials will be firmly laid down. As usual there will be full chat room coverage and the messageboard will sparkle tonight with everyones different opinions. |
