| Fri 2nd March 2001 - No Legg to stand on | |
| March Headlines |
As revealed here last Wednesday the red card handed out to Andy Legg last week at
Halifax will stand. Legg is angry that the FAW have refused to allow the referee to view
the video and then possibly reduce his charge. Legg will now miss three games in 8 days,
at Home to Orient next Tuesday and the trips to Lincoln and Shrewsbury. Report from www.totalwales.com I dont want to say too much on how I feel about the Welsh FA at the minute because I would probably get into trouble, said an angry Legg. But I find it petty that they will not consider my case when even the referee who sent me off was prepared to look at the situation. Legg received his marching orders for violent conduct in the match at Halifax on February 20 after kicking out at opponent Steve Kerrigan. He insisted he did not make contact with the player and, after the game, match referee Paul Danson, of Leicester, said he was willing to look at a video of the incident City decided to appeal and asked the Football Association of Wales to send the film to the referee. But after viewing the video, FAW secretary-general David Collins ruled there were no grounds for an appeal to a disciplinary commission. Legg, a revelation in his new sweepers role, will miss Tuesdays home game against Leyton Orient and the matches at Lincoln and Shrewsbury. I believe I had a good case for getting the ban reduced to one match or perhaps a fine. The club felt the same way, he said. I could have been done for intent because I lost my head and did intend to kick him. But I stopped myself from doing so, and the lad showed no reaction whatsoever. The referee told me he was prepared to look at the video and the club paid the appeal fee. It was no skin off the Welsh FAs nose to let the referee see the video, but they refused to do so. They havent helped me one little bit. I must serve a three-match suspension for violent conduct when I didnt actually make contact. Im absolutely gutted because I have been really careful this year. Central defenders are more likely to get booked, but I have picked up only three cautions compared with 12 and a send-ing-off last season. |
