City shocked the league leaders today by taking a 2 goal lead at Saltergate. Kevin Evans fired a 30 yard shot into the Chesterfield goal on 24 mins and City kept the lead until half time. Soon after the restart Jason Bowen extended the lead. But within 2 minutes Chesterfield halved the difference and with a strong wind behind them the Spirites dominated the second half using the win to their advantage. The equaliser came from sub and leading scorer Luke Beckett on 86 mins. Disappointing not to win but when its against a team in the form that Chesterfield have been in its heartening to know we can give then a scare and nearly take all the points from them. That has to be considered as the hardest game we have to play this season so it is a good result. City started the third game in a row with the same team but made changes on the bench. New signing Andrew Jordan was joined by a returning Jon Hallworth, neither played any part in the match. Nor did Paul Brayson but Leo FW and Scott McCulloch both came on. City play Llanelli in the FAW Cup in midweek before returning to league action against lowly York at Ninian Park next Saturday. Thats a game that City would be expected to win and with the Bluebirds scoring 2 goals a game for the last 4 games I can't see York turning us over. |
