There is a meeting tonight to discuss and try to solve the hooligan problem that still appears to be present at Ninian Park. City fan Peter MacKenzie is hoping to bring the problem to light and to get the club to act to keep hooligans from Ninian Park.

Peter has arranged a meeting at the Lansdowne public house in Canton for 6:30pm today where issues will be raised and hopefully solutions can be found.

While it is generally regarded that the problem days of the 70's and 80's are long behind us there are still factions of so called supporters that choose to use violence to get their enjoyment on matchdays.

The meeting tonight is for fans to offer opinions on how best to deal with the situation. The press are aware of the meeting and will publicise it. The findings from the meeting will be taken forward to a follow up meeting with the club, the police, the council and all parties concerned.

The following posting from Peter explains his feelings and his intentions.

"Just for the record. I have followed City since 1966 during which time there have been plenty of lows on and off the pitch, with the odd high along the way.

I have bawled encouragement and sung myself hoarse. I have got back home at 2 in the morning after midweek away game defeats, unbowed.

I have never threatened supporters of the opposition or been involved in any thuggery.

I am a passionate Bluebird excited at the prospect of seeing a dream held since I was a boy.... City in the top flight.... becoming a distinct possibility. I travel to numerous Premiership grounds and see for myself just how far these clubs and their supporters have progressed since the days when City hoolies were at their most notorious, back in the late 70's. Our club has not progressed during this time because of poor personnel and lack of real funding. When gates dipped to 2 / 3000, I was there.

I have been at plenty of away grounds where I have been so very proud of the City support (eg Elm Park Reading for Cup match, when we lost on penalties, Bramell Lane Sheffield again in the cup, Selhurst Park when we almost outnumbered and certainly outsung Wimbledon....the night Sam saw the spark that is City !.. and so many more.

So I am City. I know the support. I know of the reputation and the deeds. Passionate supporters.

BUT FACE REALITY.

Our fringe support, (most of which are good time boys too disinterested in Barnet away.... but Stoke, Bristol, Hull?) and their reputation (deserved or otherwise / bad press coverage granted) prevent so many Soth Walians from coming to Ninian Park, let alone away fans.

70,000 people watched respective games against Finland and Brazil. Mums, Dads, Kids, Grans... Christ, it was like St Trianians down there !. Then ask how many of these have visited Ninian Park recently. Not bloody many. You read on this board, from dedicated supporters, of people who are too intimidated to bring their own kids. Let alone people which a club with as much change going on as cardiff should be attracting to Ninian Park. 70,000 people !! Think about it. Then think of how hard it is to talk up a game beforehand and attract 8,000.

The eggchasers had more than 9,000 against Newport the other day (...we wuz robbed !).

It tells you that something is not right.

The Ninian Park experience is not one easily sold and so long as we have groups of guys charging around looking for trouble, it will barely change.

On the hooligan subject, I have this opinion. We would be better off without you guys. We would be able to grow our gates considerably quicker, without your presence. Acknowledging that you will always exist in some form or other... get wiser. Organise real rucks, with real firms somewhere other than Ninian Park / City Centre. And leave real football supporters alone... home and away supporters.

I believe it is time that the decent majority had a say. The club have failed totaly over the years to tackle the problem of hooligans. The reasons are many and documented.

But we have a new opportunity at Cardiff City Football Club to go forward in so many areas. I believe the club is ready to be seen to make a stand. I have had several meetings with City Directors over the last week or two and have been encouraged to hear of proposals to combat loutish behaviour by City followers.

I have been approached by Western Mail, Echo and BBC Wales to give publicity to the meeting at the Landsdowne on Wednesday evening. (as it happens, I have not courted the publicity, preferring to see the suggestions eminating from the meeting being placed before the club officials, police, stewards, councilors et al at a follow up meeting).

But there is an interest..... people are keen to see things change.

I have had many scores of emails / postings from well wishers. I am not a saddo, seeking 15 minutes. I have been an anonymous supporter during all my time on the Bob Bank and will be happiest back there.

But please support these good intentions and attend the meeting.

It is not intended as a vigilante group or a whinging chamber. All I would like to see is a group of like minded City supporters, talking honestly about the Hoolie subject and coming up with suggestions that can be taken to the club for discussion. The club needs to know that the 'good guys' have a voice too.

PLEASE COME ALONG... WEDS 6.30 ONWARDS AT THE LANDSDOWNE PUBLIC HOUSE.

Please email me if you are intending attending the meeting. hope to see you there."
