City Chairman Steve Borley has shown his anger with Preston for
delaying the Kurt Nogan transfer. Nogan completed his move this morning but was not in
time to be able to play tonight.
The Lancashire Evening post report the
story like this:-
Cardiff City today launched a stinging attack on Preston, accusing the club of
"arrogance" over the Kurt Nogan affair. Ninian Park chairman Steve Borley laid
into his Deepdale counterparts for their behaviour during the transfer negotiations. And
he stormed: "The way they acted was incredible and I will never forget it."
Borley claimed North End had threatened to prevent the player talking to them unless they
paid the entire £100,000 fee up front. The price, he said, had been agreed between the
two clubs as early as last Thursday. But because Cardiff would not agree to a lump sum
payment they were prevented from signing the player in time for last Friday night's win
over Colchester. "No club pays for a player up front," said Borley today.
"But Preston said that if we didn't agree then Kurt was off-limits until yesterday.
That was just incredible. We had agreed the fee last Thursday, but they said that if we
paid the whole sum immediately we could talk to him Friday. We obviously didn't do that.
Once Preston had given the go-ahead the negotiations with Kurt were relatively easy. But
Preston dealt with this in an arrogant way. We are delighted to sign Kurt Nogan, of
course. But Preston's part in the transfer leaves a sour taste." |
