weston.jpg (6740 bytes)The good ship Cardiff City charges ahead today with two new signings set to be completed. With the thrill of yesterday 5 - 1 demolition of Bristol Rovers still at the front of everyones minds City haved lined up two new signings.

As reported last week Arsenal agreed a fee with City for 20 year old Wales U21 skipper Rhys Weston. The fee is thought to be £300,000. Weston watched the game at Ninian Park yesterday after agreeing terms and passing his medical late last week. After the game Weston alongwith the other proposed signing, Stewart Kerr, was introduced to City fans celebrating in the new Grandstand bars by Sam Hammam.

Sam came in first to a rapturous reception and then went and got the players and their wives / girlfreinds. The support shown to them should leave them in little doubt that they are making the right move.

Stewart Kerr the 26 year old keeper from Celtic also watched the game from the Directors Box and has spent the last few days in Cardiff. He was discussing terms over the weekend and is expected to join along with Weston.

With the injury to Andy Legg the signing of Rhys Weston could be very timely indeed.

These are exciting times at Ninian Park and now its time for the fans to actually believe we are on the march. Saturdays crowd of 8,013 was diappointing but hopefully many watched the game on TV and will turn up on Wednesday when City play Lincoln.

City coach Alan Cork said Arsenal defender Rhys Weston was on the verge of joining City last night and the Wales under-21 international defender could fill Legg’s position in the back three.

City and Arsenal have agreed a £300,000 fee and Weston watched the demolition of Rovers from the directors’ box along with Celtic goalkeeper Stewart Kerr, another player Bluebirds owner Sam Hammam hopes to sign.

“As far as I know Rhys is here to sign the contract,” said Cork after his side’s biggest win of the season. “He’s here to talk about personal terms and I believe he’s agreed to join us.

“Losing Andy is a big disappointment but I’ve got Rhys coming in and players like Jeff Eckhardt coming back. There’s depth everywhere in the squad.”

Report from BBC Online
Cardiff look set to complete the signing of Wales defender Rhys Weston from Arsenal on Monday.

The 20 year old was in the grandstand to watch the Bluebirds' emphatic 5-1 demolition of Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup second round on Sunday.

"Rhys has agreed, everything is done and he has just got to sign the contract," said Cardiff head coach Alan Cork.

A fee of about £300,000 has reportedly been agreed for Weston.

Cardiff are also chasing the signature of Celtic goalkeeper Stuart Kerr, who was in the directors' box for the game against Rovers.

"He was in the directors' box and you can write what you want about that," said Cork.

Weston has found opportunities hard to come by at Highbury.

He made his Premiership debut on the final day of last season as Arsenal were beaten 4-2 by Newcastle at St James' Park.

Weston's only other appearances came in the Worthington Cup, at Middlesbrough last season and in this season's exit at home to Ipswich.
