Manager in waiting Bobby Gould hopes to secure the services of Tony Sheridan. Sheridan the former Coventry midfielder has been playing for Portadown in Northern Ireland. Sheridan was due to play for City on trial against Aberystwyth but delays at Dublin airport forced him to miss the game. Sheridan trained with the City squad on Thursday. On Friday night Bobby Gould in his role as pundit on Today FM in Ireland revealed he will offer Sheridan a contract on Monday. My colleagues in the Irish Republic sent
me the following article. Sheridan is expected to agree the deal with Gould on Monday, according to the Bluebirds boss. Speaking on Ireland's national independent radio station Today FM, for whom Gould works, he said: "I'll never forget the first time I saw Tony play. I remember the day well. It was 1991 - almost 10 years ago. "There was this young lad playing for Coventry City against West Brom in a youth match when I was at the Hawthorns. "He wore the No 11 shirt and he dictated the game. I couldn't believe what I had seen. He was breathtaking. "I enquired after him after the game and I was told he was a lad called Tony Sheridan from Dublin. "I was fortunate enough when I took over at Coventry a couple of years later that Tony was still at the club. In fact, he played in one of my first games in charge at Arsenal. "He looked to have a really bright future. "Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way and his career went off the rails." He added: "I asked about Tony when Cardiff toured Ireland last month. And I was told he had been playing for Portadown. Within 24 hours of getting the job at Cardiff I was on the phone to Tony and invited him over. "Hopefully, he will be one of the best signings I'll make for Cardiff City." |
