| April Headlines |
Cambridge look to have secured their second division place. They have a 7 point lead over City which I cant see being reduced by a great deal. It now appears that there is a 4 horse race for one safe position. Chesterfield are out of the running. Defeat for them at Oldham tomorrow will confirm their relegation. Blackpool are second bottom and two points behind City having played a game more. It would be foolish to say they are relegated already but they are 4 points behind Oxford who curently hold the last safe place. Blackpool have 4 games to go and their form is shocking. I do not expect them to survive. City then are evenly placed with Scunthorpe who are one place and 1 point above us and Oxford who are 2 places and two points. City have a game in hand on both sides. Its simple we have to win our game in hand and then do no worse than the other teams in our remaining games. The game in hand we have is at Gillingham, its the penultimate game of the season and it could be all over by then anyway. This coming weekend the luck could swing Oxford's way. They play Brentford at the Manor Ground, the Bees have been in poor form, they goal they scored against Millwall on Saturday was their first in over 7 games. Scunthorpe, City and Blackpool all travel. Scunny have the hardest task, a game at Preston. Victory for North End could see them promoted so they will be up for it. Blackpool go to Bury and City face Oldham at Boundary Park. Its a must win game for City. Defeat coupled with an Oxford win would probably see the door closed for us. Mathmatically maybe not but it would be hard to see how our fortunes could change so dramatically. At the moment its in our own hands, win all our games and no matter what the rest do we would survive. In reality it wont be that easy, we need some luck. Lets hope the other relegation battlers have used all their luck up and start to drop more points. |
