In a sensational start to the week Sam Hammam has responded to the poor performances and the baying crowd by relieving Bobby Gould of his first team duties. Bobby will still for now be called the manager but Alan Cork will be first team coach with the first team and selection responsibilities.

City fans made their disapproval of Gould known at Orient on Saturday as the Bluebirds suffered their second consecutive league defeat.

Bobby appears to have moved "upstairs" and will now look after other footballing matters.

Corks rise to the top at Ninian Park has come within weeks of his appointment as assistant manager. His first task is to get a win at Carlisle tomorrow.

Report from BBC Wales.
Alan Cork has taken over the coaching and team selection roles at Cardiff City.

Bobby Gould remains as manager of the club, responsible for other football matters.

Cork was assistant manager at the club, but he sees his responsibilities significantly extended.

The move comes after furious Cardiff City fans stayed behind to call for Bobby Gould to be sacked after Cardiff's second successive defeat, 2-1 away to Leyton Orient.

The Bluebirds have dropped to 13th place in the Third Division, having won only three out of 11 league matches this season.

Gould's appointment was never a popular move with Cardiff fans, who remembered his troubled times as Wales manager.

His tactical judgement has been questioned and the departure of popular ex-manager Billy Ayre from the club caused resentment.

Alan Cork will continue the 'Crazy Gang' tradition favoured by Cardiff owner Sam Hammam.

He, along with Gould, was a significant part of the set-up Hammam put together at Wimbledon.
