Todays Wales on Sunday says that when Sam Hammam takes control at Ninian Park Bobby Gould is likely to team up with him. Not as manager though, but director of football. Hammam and Gould have a long history together with the peak being the 1988 FA Cup final. Gould managed Hammam's Wimbledon to glory at Wembley. The bookies have reduced odds on Gould as manager to 1/3 but it appears that Gould will take a role which will enable him to concentrate on attracting young Welsh talent to Ninian Park. Gould of course is well au fait with the Welsh football scene after being national team manager for 4 years prior to Mark Hughes taking over the job. Gould and Hammam are good friends and Gould has been working closely with Hammam in selecting Cardiff as the team Hammam wants to invest in. This would appear then to leave Billy Ayre in a safer position. Personally I would have been disappointed to see Billy kicked out without him having a chance. Its further reported this morning that Billy would then be given £1.4m, approx half of the investmentment from Hammam, to use for team strengthening. That has to be good news as well. |
