Mike Ford has quit Cardiff City. Injury has forced the City skipper into retirement from playing. Ford was hoping to get a job on the coaching staff at Ninian Park but he has been told no position is available.

As speculated all week this was coming. Ford has taken a holiday now but don't be too surprised if he pops up in Oxford next on the coaching staff there.

Ford is one of the out of contract players and his decision to quit is one less for Billy to make.

The retained list is due to be announced on Monday and a second player leaving will be Winston Faerber. Winnie has been on the transfer list for a couple of months. He has made a successful return to the team after being dropped mid season but his family are having difficulty setting here and I understand they have already moved back to Holland. Winnie has agreed a free transfer to an unknown Dutch club and will leave on Monday.

Can I wish both players every success in the future and thank them for the efforts at Cardiff City. Good luck to you both.

News of the retained list should be available on Monday. More when I get it.
