A new 30,000 seater stadium with the potential to increase capacity looks a step nearer today after a big splash in the Echo about it.

While officially City are still looking into the possibility of moving the impression given was that £32m of finance was in place and the location will be Leckwith on the site of the athletic ground.

It was hoped that building would start in 2001 with the project completed and ready for use at the start of the 2003 / 2004 season.

All parties, Sam Hammam and Russell Goodway especially are keen to push ahead and it certainly looks like the deal is nearing completion.

Sam's vision for Cardiff City is to move up the league and he believes a new ground is essential for the future.

While Ninian Park holds many special memories the truth is it is an old and somewhat dilapidated stadium. A new ground must be the way forward.
