City picked up their 5th league draw in a row when they drew 1 - 1 with Brighton today. The Seagulls took the lead on 59 mins when Wicks headed home unmarked in the 6 yard box. City picked up their game which like Brighton up until then had been cautious and a bit predictable. The Bluebirds pushed forward and got the goal they deserved when Danny Hill produced an exquisite chip from just inside the area to make it 1 - 1 on 74 mins. Rob Earnshaw then produced a moment of magic that would have graced the Nou Camp or the Maracana with an overhead kick which agonisingly came back off the post and was cleared. The little fella earned a huge ovasion when he came past the grandstand after his effort. Sitting in the Directors Box was new signing Leo Fortune West. He must be itching get out there and mix it up, something we were lacking today, good performances from Scott McCulloch and Man of the match Daniel Gabbidon but not much else from the rest. Gethin Jones and Kevin Evans both came on as subs and both playeed with confidence and looked like they could do something. So the highlights, Danny's goal and Rob's effort. The rest, well same as usual, a lot of huff and puff but the killer ball or the clinical finish was lacking. A quick mention for Scott McCulloch. not only did he defend well but he was not afraid to bring the ball out of his own box, on one such occasion he ran about 50 yards before shooting on target but at the keeper. He also fired over the bar on two other occasions. I like him, he will score some goals for us I'm sure. With Halifax on the wrong end of a 5 - 1 scoreline at Mansfield today (former City player Chris Greenacre grabbing a hat trick) only a convincing win will do against the Shaymen, who are now bottom of the table, at Ninian Park on Tuesday. |
