What a funny old week. Monday burst into life with the sacking of Billy Ayre. Not so much a shock in the actual parting of Billy and Cardiff City, with Bobby Gould and Alan Cork as the leaders Billy's position was always going to be vulnerable. It was the suddenness and the timing that caught everyone out, even Billy. The only football action was on Tuesday when City beat Cwmbran courtesy of Kurt Nogans first half winner. Of course we should have been playing tonight but because of Rob Earnshaw, Kevin Evans and Daniel Gabbidon being called up for Wales U21 the game was postponed. We would have been welcoming Phil Stant back to Ninian Park, the former City striker is the current manager at Lincoln. There is still no confirmed date for the re arranged game. Our next game is next Tuesday. Another FAW Premier Cup game at home to Merthyr this time. Kick off at 7:15pm. The next league game is on Sat 14th Oct away at Leyton Orient. So its been a fairly quiet week, as you have noticed from the lack of news in the current newfile. We did take Nathan Davies on trial from Newport County, and we are continuing with the trial of Jason Harris from Hull City. Marc Porter, a 16 year old keeper from Cwmbran, was signed on a three year contract. Porter comes with good reports and is part of Bobby Goulds plans for the future of Cardiff City. Then of course there has been the usual speculation and rumour. Leon Jeanne is the hot topic this week. Jeanne, a striker, from Cardiff, is having a torrid time off the field and has walked out on Q.P.R and Wales U21. Neither his club manager Gerry Francis or his national manager Jimmy Shoulder have seen him this week. He did make an appearance in Cardiff on Wednesday when he was in court to face motoring offences. It is thought that Q.P.R. will let Jeanne go for free and Bobby Gould is reported to be interested in taking him into Cardiff City and giving him a chance to get his career back on track. Matt Bryant, a defender currently with Gillingham has been another potential target. City have admitted watching the player who cost the Gills £65,000 when they bought him from Bristol City. Unconfirmed rumours at the end of the week have linked City to Scott Hiley and Mike Ponopoulos from Portsmouth. Hiley joined Pompey from Premiership Southampton. Hiley is considered to be a good player and would be a quality signing for Cardiff City. |
