| Tues 5th Dec 2000 - Brighton 2 - 0 Cardiff City. Report. | |||

Cardiff's impressive run of 11 games unbeaten, the last 7 straight victories, came to an end at a wet and soggy Withdean Stadium tonight. Brighton took the honours and progressed to round 2 of the LDV Vans Trophy after two early goals were enough to secure the win. Brighton scored on 13 minutes when Lee Johnson fired home and the lead was extended on 20 mins when Danny Cullip scored after an error by Dave Greene. City failed to create the chances they have been doing in the league and did not really threaten the Seagulls goal until the last few minutes when Nogan and Brayson both went close. Brighton hit the woodwork in the final minutes but the win was secured by then. City fielded a mix of the first XI as well as the returning Andy Johnston and Danny Hill. James Collins, Kurt Nogan, Paul Brayson and Dave Greene all substitutes last Saturday started the game along with Mark Walton, Mark Bonner, Scott McCulloch Josh Low and Rhys Weston. McCulloch was called City's man of the match by the local radio pundits. Any defeat is upsetting but if we had to pick out any match to lose it would have to have been this one. Lets hope the return of Leo and Earnie on Saturday will get the Bluebirds back to winning ways and a lucrative 3rd round FA Cup tie. |
