Frank Burrows nearly signed the 6'3 centre back in January for £30,000. Now Greene is available on a "Bosman".

The lynchpin of the U's defence for the last couple of seasons, strong in the air and a constant threat at the other end of the field from set pieces, providing vital goals last season. Liverpool were reportedly tracking his progress earlier in the season, but the trail seems to have gone cold for now, a relief to all U's fans as the defence never looks quite the same without him. Swept the board at the player of year awards for 1998/99.

I have heard tonight that the earlier reported loan deal involving 19 year old Ryan Green from Wolves could also happen soon. Green was a full Welsh international before he played a first team game for Wolves.

Also City expect to announce upto 3 more signings in the next week.
