Three teams are emerging as the form teams in Division 3 and will get automatic
promotion. Leaders Chesterfield, second placed Brighton and 5th placed Cardiff. 3rd and
4th Rochdale and Orient respectively, with all due respect will be involved in the play
offs. Chesterfield kept there lead at the top with a 4 - 1 home win over Orient, Brighton secured maximum points with a 2 - 1 home win over Halifax. Rochdale in third scored a late winner in the Lancashire derby against Blackpool. These are heady days for Rochdale and I don't think they will sustain their charge, Orient have fine home form and again I think they will drop more points and not threaten automatic promotion. The pack chasing City Cheltenham, Scunthorpe, Hull and Southend had mixed days. Cheltenham won a seven goal battle aginst Barnet by the odd goal, ex Swansea striker Julian Alsop scoring in the 89th minute to snatch the points. Scunthorpe were beaten at home by Hull City and Southend made the long trek to Hartlepool to come away empty handed after a 1 - 0 defeat. City have a game in hand on all four of these clubs. Carlisle remain bottom of the table but they were the only club currently in the bottom 4 to gain a point today with a 1 - 1 at home to Lincoln. The others, Halifax, Torquay and Exeter all lost. |
