What a week. City came back from 2 down to grab a point at Barnet and then went and threw away a two goal lead to only get a point against Southend on Monday. So not happy with the way things went on the pitch Sam Hammam and Bobby Gould have stood by their word and gone out to strengthen the squad. So far three new contracts have been signed. Kevin Evans has joined from Leeds Utd, former Coventry player Tony Sheridan has signed and today for £100,000 Scott McCulloch has joined the Bluebirds from the Scottish Premiership. Just as it seems as though thats the end it turns out that City have agreed a £300,000 fee with Rotherham for Leo Fortune West. The big striker is well known around the third division and at 6' 4 it fits Sam's criteria for big physical players. Sam will meet Leo on Sunday to discuss personal terms. If the deal goes ahead for that sum it would break the record transfer paid for Godrey Ingram back in the 80's. City paid San Jose £280,000 for Ingram but then sold him back to the States for the same price. The changes at Ninian Park are breathtaking. I know we have a long way to go but its a whirlwind start and the club are showing they are serious about progress. All that matters now is the results. We must move forward and that means winning games. Results like those mentioned above will not get us promoted. We have to win games, we have to be ruthless with teams and show no mercy. So far this summer we have signed Mark Walton, Dave Greene, Andy Thompson, Gethin Jones, Paul Buttery, Lee Skelly, Paul Brayson, Kevin Evans and Tony Sheridan. Daniel Gabbidon has come on loan. Now we have stepped up a gear and started to pay out for players. £100,000 for McCulloch and potentially £300,000 for Fortune West. And of course the most important signing Sam himself. Keep your support up. The more people that go the more money can be spent on the team the sooner we can progress. |
